As of 1 November, Janno de Haas (50) will start as Chairman of the Board at MVGM Group. De Haas follows in the footsteps of Eddy Smit, founder and shareholder of the European Property Manager. Smit founded MVGM in 2008 together with Menno van der Horst after the Management Buy Out of the Meeús Property Management activities (Meeús is meanwhile merged into AON). Smit will remain actively involved in the organisation as Chairman of the Supervisory Board.
De Haas’ appointment follows the exponential international growth MVGM has experienced in recent years. Earlier, MVGM Group added Managing Director Europe Maarten de Haas (not related to Janno de Haas) to its board of directors and Susi Kaml as CFO. Together with Member of the Board Menno van der Horst, CHRO Peggy Poldervaart and CIO Cor Treure, they steer the international Property Management organisation.
Janno de Haas has 15 years of experience in managing large organisations in diverse sectors such as Intergas, Den Braven and Philips Healthcare. Smit is confident about the change in leadership: “Janno brings a lot of international knowledge and experience, enthusiasm, commitment and a fresh perspective on Property Management. His career shows that he has a broad experience in managing international organisations in changing markets where innovation is indispensable, just like at MVGM. We will be working together on a close handover until the end of 2021 and, even after that, I look forward to working with Janno and the MVGM Group Board and Management in my new role as Chairman of the Supervisory Board.”
The decision by Smit (65) to continue as a Chairman of the Supervisory Board is not unexpected. MVGM has adapted to the new reality after the impact of COVID-19 on the real estate market. With Smit’s wish to shift from an executive role to an advisory one, now is a good time to hand the baton to Janno De Haas..
Menno van der Horst “I had the opportunity to work with Eddy on the development of MVGM for 18 years. We started with about 170 employees and are proud of the 1,600 employees who nowadays work from 10 countries to achieve our ambition: making MVGM the best European property manager. Eddy has a keen eye for both our employees and clients and knows our business like no other. I am thankfull that we will be able to continue to use these qualities during the handover to Janno and in Eddy’s new role at MVGM as Chairman of the Supervisory Board.”
